Update: Clarification to Diane Lane’s comments about Justice League/Avengers

UPDATE: As expected, a clarifying statement from Diane Lane was released today in regards to her comments on Andy Cohen Live. ComicBook.com received the following from her reps:

"Diane meant "sorry to disappoint" in reference to revealing anything concerning "Justice League" that is not already out in the public, and, was declining to comment on a film (Avengers) that she has not seen.

She is thrilled to continue her role as Martha Kent, and appreciates your excitement for "Justice League".

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to clarify this."

Woof. Some say that honesty is the best policy, but perhaps that's not true when a star chooses to sour a film before it's had the chance to the reach the public. For real, I'm not trying to start anything here, but I'm not sure of how much more bad press the DCEU can endure as it continues to engage with the MCU in a battle for the box office.

Recently, while appearing on Watch What Happens with Andy Cohen Live, actress Diane Lane – who plays Martha Kent, Superman's mother, in MAN OF STEEL, BATMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and JUSTICE LEAGUE – had some choice words to say about Zack Snyder's highly anticipated (and scrutinized) superhero ensemble epic.

It all started when Lane was asked if she could divulge any spoilers or secrets about the upcoming film, and whether or not she believes it's better than Marvel's THE AVENGERS. The seemingly salty and seasoned actress then replied, "No and no. Short but honest. I hate to disappoint." 

Oh snap! Now, this is obviously just one woman's opinion, though you do have to wonder what had prompted Lane to give such a dispirited response. It's a given that Marvel's THE AVENGERS is a tough act to beat, though one would hope that DC's JUSTICE LEAGUE would, at the very least, stand toe-to-toe beside their rival's ensemble hullabaloo. 

While I'm notoriously not the biggest fan of the DCEU, I am still holding out hope for JUSTICE LEAGUE, and will happily see it in theaters when it lands on November 16, 2017. However, if I'm to be as honest as Ms. Lane, I am anticipating the arrival of WONDER WOMAN much more than whatever Zack Snyder has cooked up for his Batmobile with even more guns, five-pointed trident-wielding, monochrome superhero slugfest. I jest, of course. I'll be there regardless, and hope with every fiber of my comic-book-loving being that I'm proven wrong. Dear JUSTICE LEAGUE, please be positively awesome, I'm seriously rooting for you.
