Diana the Musical is the big “winner” at this year’s Razzie Awards
Netflix’s Diana the Musical has something to celebrate. Maybe? Ok, not so much. The heavily mocked telling of the life story of Diana, Princess of Wales, swept the Razzie Awards with a total of five wins, per Deadline.
The stage show was filmed and subsequently sent to Netflix which made it qualify for the Razzie Awards and with that distinction it left the night with Worst Picture, Worst Actress for Jeanna de Waal, Worst Director, Worst Supporting Actress, and Worst Screenplay. The film was nominated in a total of nine categories. Netflix streamed a filmed version of the stage show before it made its debut on Broadway. When Diana the Musical finally made it to the stage, it only lasted for 33 performances before it gave its final bow.
So we don’t just pick on Diana the Musical, basketball superstar LeBron James took home the award for Worst Actor for Space Jam: A New Legacy and he also shared the award for Worst Screen Couple with the official title being “James and any Warner cartoon character (or WarnerMedia product) he dribbles on.”Space Jam: A New Legacy also won for Worst Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel.
Jared Leto’s role in House of Gucci was also acknowledged with the actor taking home the Razzie for Worst Supporting Actor. To his credit, this role also received several positive nominations during awards season which only proves how polarizing the performance was. Some people loved it, some people hated it.
