Blizzard Entertainment will be launching the video game Diablo IV on June 6th, and in anticipation of that event they have unveiled a new trailer for the game that was directed Chloe Zhao. The trailer is called “Saviors Wanted” and can be seen at the bottom of this article. Zhao is best known for directing the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Eternals and the Best Picture winner Nomadland. She co-directed the Diablo IV trailer with Kiku Ohe, director of the 2017 film The Lines.
Here’s some information on the Diablo IV trailer: Set in the dark world of Sanctuary–a realm that has been besieged by horrific monsters while the High Heavens and the Burning Hells wage destructive battles against each other–Saviors Wanted captures the immersive and dark world that the series is known for and delivers the kind of cinematic drama that exists within the game. With a gripping story that interweaves emotion and humanity into the game’s characters, the promotional film takes viewers on a journey of destruction at the hands of Lilith, the Blessed Mother determined to rule over Sanctuary once more.
Zhao provided the following statement to Deadline: “Working with Blizzard, we had the wonderful opportunity to bring the dark, thrilling and imaginative world of Diablo IV to life. Diablo fans are very passionate, and many have been with the game for over two decades. We want to do right by the fans, honor the game’s rich lores and visceral world building while evoking the strong emotions the players feel while immersing in the game.“
Zhao is currently gearing up to go into production on an adaptation of the Maggie O’Farrell novel Hamnet, which is described as “a gripping tale about William Shakespeare’s wife, Agnes”. She is also developing a futuristic sci-fi Western version of Dracula for Universal Pictures.
