Big-screen adaptations of classic video-games typically aren't the best films out there, but as video-game movies go, last year's DETECTIVE PIKACHU wasn't half-bad. According to THR, DETECTIVE PIKACHU director Rob Letterman will return to the genre as he's been tapped to helm a feature-film adaptation of Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil.

The adaptation of Beyond Good & Evil is in the works at Netflix and will be a hybrid live-action/animated feature. The video-game takes place in "the 25th century on a remote mining planet that is under alien attack. The military rulers that promised to defend the population may be in league with the invaders. In this environment, a young photojournalist named Jade is recruited to be part of an underground resistance movement." Released in 2003, Beyond Good & Evil was originally intended to be the first of a trilogy, but although it was critically praised, the game was not a commercial success, which scrapped any plans Ubisoft had for further installments. Over the years, the game has developed a cult following and Ubisoft announced that a prequel was in development at E3 2017. Netflix's adaptation of Beyond Good & Evil is still in the early stages and they're currently searching for writers to tackle the project.

In addition to DETECTIVE PIKACHU, Rob Letterman has also directed GOOSEBUMPS and GULLIVER'S TRAVELS, as well as co-directed SHARK TALE and MONSTERS VS. ALIENS for Dreamworks Animation.
