Seven installments into the twelve-part Hulu / Blumhouse anthology series Into the Dark, there have been several "episodes" that I have enjoyed and a couple I haven't enjoyed so much – but that's the fun thing about watching an anthology. If one story isn't to your taste, it doesn't matter much because the next one is going to be something totally different.
One entry in the Into the Dark series is released through the Hulu streaming service every month, each "episode" being a feature-length film that has something to do with a notable day in the month of its release. So far we've had Into the Dark movies that deal with Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, Valentine's Day, the Ides of March, and April Fool's Day. In the next three months the series will be covering Mother's Day, Father's Day, and Independence Day.
We have previously heard that the Mother's Day episode, which will be available to view on Hulu as of May 3rd, is titled ALL THAT WE DESTROY. Directed by Chelsea Stardust from a script by Sean Keller and Jim Agnew, it's about
a geneticist who fears that her son may be becoming a serial killer and creates a group of clones in an attempt to cure him of his psychopathic tendencies. Therefore allowing him to relive the murder of his first victim.
ALL THAT WE DESTROY stars Samantha Mathis, Israel Broussard, Aurora Perrineau, Dora Madison, and Frank Whaley.
Now we have some information to share on the June and July installments as well.
Directed by Adam Mason, who was also at the helm of the April Fool's Day entry I'M JUST F*CKING WITH YOU, and expected to reach Hulu on June 7th is the Father's Day tale THEY COME KNOCKING, which stars Clayne Crawford of the Lethal Weapon TV series (pictured above). Crawford's character is
a recent widower who takes his two daughters on a road trip where he finds his family in the crosshairs of terrifying supernatural entities.
Josephine Langford, Robyn Lively, Lia McHugh, and Dwight Hicks are also in the cast. Writing credits for THEY COME KNOCKING don't seem to be available at this time.
Coming to Hulu on July 4th is the Independence Day themed CULTURE SHOCK, directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero (a.k.a La Muñeca Del Terror), who co-wrote the script with Efren Hernandez and James Benson.
Starring Richard Cabral, Martha Higareda, Shawn Ashmore, Felipe de Lara, Creed Bratton, and horror icon Barbara Crampton, CULTURE SHOCK follows
a young Mexican woman in pursuit of the American Dream, who crosses illegally into the United States only to find herself in an American nightmare.
I'll be watching every entry in this series, and look forward to seeing what the remaining months will bring.
