Kevin Feige talks details on Doctor Strange and potential solo female Marvel films

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Expect to hear a lot more for Kevin Feige in the coming weeks as various venues tease out his interviews, dropping hints, clues, and tidbits of info on upcoming Marvel projects in preparation for the rollout of the next addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, THOR: THE DARK WORLD. In this latest interview snippet from Movies.com, Feige talks a bit about the much-discussed DOCTOR STRANGE film, which still hasn’t been given an official release date.

“Doc Strange, as I’ve been saying for years, is a movie I believe we should make — we’re just figuring out how to make it a great movie. It is in active development right now. Whether that’s one of the movies we announce for 2016 or 2017, we have to see. I think it’ll be the middle of next year before we announce officially what the post ANT-MAN films will be.”

The question was posed if those future announcements are being saved for next years Comic Con with Feige saying:

“Maybe… stuff might happen before that. It’s too early to tell.”

The other hot topic that Feige can’t seem to escape is whether or not there will be a solo female-led Marvel film, to which he responded with the usual tap dance.

“Good question. I don’t know what they’re doing or what they’re planning,’ Feige said. “I know we have numerous exciting female heroes, whether none of them are currently slated, some of them are in development — frankly, you can look at what Jane Foster does in [Thor: The Dark World], look at Pepper Potts literally saving the day and defeating the bad guy in Iron Man 3, and I’d say we already have great female heroes that are showcased and play major roles in our universe now. Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as you will see, features Black Widow in her biggest role yet in any of our films. In terms of a solo standalone female hero, I’m not sure when that will be. We make two movies a year, we’ve planned through 2015 and we have some ideas of what we’re doing in 2016 and 2017, so we’ll see what happens.”

Feige, essentially, is the man that holds all the cards when it comes to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s The Man in that respect. It can be frustrating to fans when it comes to announcements, etc., but I think it makes sense to play it close to the chest a bit and let the hype develop. I love to hear new stuff as well, but I’m fine with where we’re at in terms of what’s coming. For his part, Feige recently said that he’ll be sheparding the MCU for a good while.

“As long as they want me here and as long as we’re having a good time making the movies, I hope to stay and keep making movies. I think it’ll be a while, at least through the next phase or so.”

The next phase two MCU film, THOR: THE DARK WORLD, opens on November 8, 2013.
