**MINOR SPOILERS FOR MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT**
Tom Cruise is known for putting his life on the line for the sake of our enjoyment – and we love and worship him for it. With MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT the man has gone even further than he has before, filming his most death-defying stunt yet. The actor, as well as other members of the cast and crew, were on-hand to talk about the stunt while at CinemaCon last night, expressing their fear for his survival.

Cruise and the gang, including Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett and director Christopher McQuarrie, graced the stage to close out the Paramount presentation where they talked about the stunt that involved Cruise jumping out of a C-17 at 25,000 feet. The stunt took a year to plan and was for designed Cruise to do it in a way that was “physically possible without killing him,” according to McQuarrie.
In order to practice the stunt, the team built what is apparently the largest wind tunnel in the world, allowing Cruise to train for the jump over and over again. When it came to actual filming, the stunt was filmed three times over the course of three days, for the sake of proper lighting, Then, a cameraman jumped out of the plane backward, followed by Cruise who was falling at a rate of 200 mph not but three feet away. They also had to create a special helmet for him, which allows you to see his face thanks to special lights but also gives Cruise the very real oxygen he needed to not die.
The result is a stunt in the movie that finds Cruise’s Ethan Hunt and Henry Cavill’s August Walker jumping out of a plane in the middle of a thunderstorm. After being hit by lightning Cruise has to catch Cavill and re-attach his oxygen before they both crash to the ground. Our own Paul Shirey was on hand to watch the footage and presentation and described it on Twitter, as well as what Pegg and Ferguson thought about that crazy helicopter stunt we saw in the trailer.
Pegg says there was one stunt on a helicopter that he and Rebecca Ferguson thought Cruise was seriously about to die. #CinemaCon #MissionImpossibleFallout

Just saw a big action scene from #MissionImpossibleFallout that was very reminiscent of the chase scene in The Dark Knight and every bit as intense and dangerous. Without question this will be as good as Rogue Nation if not better. I’ll be shocked if it isn’t. #CinemaCon

Like you guys I saw Cruise's stuntwork involving the helicopter in the movie's excellent trailer, but I didn't think Cruise did even crazier stuff than that. The man is insane and glorious! Hopefully, we get a chance to see some of the stunt play out in the second trailer, which could arrive sometime soon as summer gets underway.
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT arrives July 27.
