Despite its shortcomings, Jamie Lee Curtis still loves Halloween: H20

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Let's pretend for a moment that HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION doesn''t exist, and that the last time the fabulous Jamie Lee Curtis starred in a HALLOWEEN film was 1998's HALLOWEEN H20: 20 YEARS LATER. Ah, that feels better. Although it was far from a perfect film, H20 was a lot of fun at the time, especially as it was the first time that Curtis had stepped into the role of Laurie Strode since the first HALLOWEEN sequel back in 1981. One person who still loves the film, warts and all, is Jamie Lee Curtis herself.

The HALLOWEEN queen spoke with Yahoo! and revealed that although she views HALLOWEEN H20: 20 YEARS LATER as a "paycheck" film, she's more than happy to defend its reputation.

I loved H20. There are a couple of great moments in that movie. It’s not a perfect movie and, yes, it was a payday movie for sure for me. But I really suggested we do it, and it was my suggestion all those years ago, because what was special was to me was that I was still in show business, [original cowriter and director] John Carpenter was still in show business, and [original cowriter and producer] Debra Hill was still in show business. Here we were, these three people 20 years later still in the game. And I thought that was worth celebrating. Then it kind of turned into something else and that’s fine.

"I just don’t want to denigrate it because, by the way, nobody goes into a movie just to make money," Curtis continued. "Because you still spend eight weeks with 120 people every day working very hard to create something. And it is a creative medium and as much as it is a financially beneficial medium, it is a creative one." Thankfully the new HALLOWEEN film from David Gordan Green seems to right much of the wrongs of previous sequels. HALLOWEEN is now playing in theaters, so be sure to check out reviews from our own Chris Bumbray and JimmyO and let us know what you thought of the film as well!
