A group of actors have signed on to co-star with Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in the upcoming Michael Mann crime drama PUBLIC ENEMIES. Oscar-nominee Marion Cotillard, Channing Tatum, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Dorff and Jason Clarke have all signed on to star in the project. Cotillard (LA VIE EN ROSE) will play Billie Frechette, lover of Depp’s John Dillinger, while the rest will play notorious members of Dillinger’s gang (Tatum as Pretty Boy Floyd, Ribisi as Alvin Karpis, Dorff as Homer Van Meter and Clarke as John “Red” Hamilton). Bale is starring as the FBI agent assigned to take down Dillinger. Many of the actors became available for this film because of strike-related delays. In addition to Depp who came aboard when SHANTARAM hit the bricks, Cotillard was expected to star in NINE for The Weinstein Company and Tatum was to star with Bruce Willis in PINKVILLE for United Artists. Both those projects hit delays and freed up the actors to star in this film (and oddly enough both Weinstein and United Artists have reached interim agreements with the WGA that would’ve allowed both NINE and PINKVILLE to move ahead). Filming on ENEMIES is scheduled to begin on March 10th in Chicago.
