Denis Villeneuve’s Dune heads to Europe for additional shooting in August

There is still work to be done on Denis Villeneuve's take on DUNE. It has been announced that the highly-anticipated big-budget sci-fi film will head to Europe for additional shooting in August.

The exact location for the additional shooting on the project will be in Hungary and, according to "Deadline", it will not cause a delay for the film which is set to be released on December 18, 2020. Additional shooting on projects of this scale is completely normal and not a testament to its quality. Movies of this scope tend to grow and expand and sometimes it's necessary to add more layers if necessary. In fact, the early word is saying that it is going to be one epic treat.

DUNE initially wrapped last July, way ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic which has shuttered film productions all over the world. Guidelines are beginning to come out for these productions to resume work safely so DUNE should be in a good position by August to head back to Hungary and get the additional shooting done at Origo Film Studios. The project also shot in Norway and Jordan before they wrapped principal photography. Actor Oscar Isaac, who is one of the many big names in the film, confirmed the additional shooting to "Deadline.":

"We're going to do some additional shooting in mid-August…they're saying in Budapest in Hungary. I saw some things cut together and it just looks amazing. Denis Villeneuve is a real artist and it will be exciting to see it come together. It's kind of wild that we're doing some additional shooting a few months before it's supposed to come out, but that happened with Star Wars as well."

DUNE, an adaptation of Frank Herbert's epic sci-fi novel of the same name, also stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem, and Stellan Skarsgard. The story follows the son of a noble family that is entrusted with the protection of the most valuable asset and most vital element in the galaxy.

Are YOU excited to see DUNE? The film hits screens on December 18, 2020.
