I've long sang the praises of Denis Villeneuve (PRISONERS), each of his films have been quite different but of the same exemplary quality. His latest film, SICARIO, has been receiving rave reviews (Check out our own Chris Bumbray's review right here) and one of the aspects which drew Villeneuve to the project was the chance to display his action chops. During an interview with Coming Soon, the director was asked about his preference to lean towards genre films over straight drama:
It’s strange, because I understand that each genre has its own specific rules, but for me, they are all movies. I’m just attracted to try to do different things, and I was very excited to make a movie that required more action. I was raised with James Bond. I love James Bond movies. I would love to do a James Bond movie one day. Action is very cinematic. I’m not someone that loves dialogue – I am someone that loves movement. Action, if it’s well done, can be very poetic and meaningful.
With STORY OF YOUR LIFE and the sequel to BLADE RUNNER on his plate, it's unlikely that Denis Villeneuve would be available to helm Bond's next feature, but should that opportunity arise in the future, I'd be more than thrilled to see what Villeneuve can do with James Bond.
SICARIO will open nation-wide on October 2, 2015, while Sam Mendes' SPECTRE will hit theaters on November 6, 2015.
Sound off, would you like to see Denis Villeneuve direct a Bond film?
