Den of Thieves 2, filming, Gerard Butler, O'Shea Jackson Jr

It’s been four years since the release of Gerard Butler’s Den of Thieves but it sounds like the sequel is finally gearing up. Deadline has reported that Den of Thieves 2: Pantera is prepping for filming to begin in Serbia and France this spring.

Gerard Butler, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Meadow Williams will all be returning for Den of Thieves 2 and they’ll be joined by Swen Temmel. It doesn’t sound as though Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson will be reprising his role but Deadline goes state that he’s expected to join the project as a producer. Den of Thieves 2: Pantera will find Big Nick (Butler) on the hunt for Donnie (Jackson Jr.) in Europe. Donnie has become involved “in the dangerous world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia as they plot a massive heist of the world’s biggest diamond exchange.” Christian Gudegast will return to write and direct Den of Thieves 2 and Deadline has heard that he’s spent a good deal of time researching the project by “spending time with notorious thieves and the investigators that hunt them.

The original movie followed “the intersecting and often personally connected lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff’s Dept. and the state’s most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank of downtown Los Angeles.Den of Thieves grossed $80 million worldwide and received mixed reviews upon release but has since grown a sizable cult following. Gerard Butler has previously said that Den of Thieves sequel would be a “more glamorous journey” than the first film as well as “more fun [&] sexy.” While I still haven’t watched the first film for myself yet, I would imagine that there are more than a few fans out there who are eager for more of Big Nick.

Are you excited for Den of Thieves 2 to start filming?
