The official trailer for Demonic has been released & Neill Blomkamp's latest looks like a unique and terrifying experience.
In the film, a young woman unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades-old rift between mother and daughter are ruthlessly revealed. Demonic was shot in mid-2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, in British Columbia and the film is unique as it uses a patent-pending new method of using volumetric capture (a three-dimensional video technology that turns actors into geometric objects). According to its press release, the amount of volumetric capture in Demonic is the most ever seen in a feature film.
The full trailer is much more coherent than the first teaser released for the film although the fact that the teaser was a bit more vague also made it equally terrifying. The new trailer sets up the stakes involving the simulation world she goes into to visit her mother in a coma. Blomkamp is clearly mixing some intriguing sci-fi ideas with the horror elements that make this film one to look out for when it's released.
Demonic premiered at Berlinale back in March and IFC Midnight bought rights to the film in the U.S., where it will be released in theaters on August 20, 2021. Starring Carly Pope, Terry Chen, Nathalie Bolt, Chris William Martin, and Michael Rogers, the film will also see a video on demand release a week later on August 27, 2021.
