Whoa! If anyone wants to try and explain whatever's happening in the trailer for Neill Blomkamp's Demonic to me, I am all ears.
As it happens, Blomkamp hasn't helmed a feature since his 2015 sci-fi flick, Chappie, starring the South African Zef rappers Die Antwoord. Unfortunately, the film was a flop, but Blomkamp isn't about to let a misfire keep him down. Today he's back with what can only be described as a hauntingly perplexing trailer for Demonic, which looks to be as weird and wonderful as you'd want a Blomkamp joint to be.
According to the film's brief and official synopsis: A young woman unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades-old rift between mother and daughter are revealed.
Demonic stars Carly Pope (Elysium), Hris William Martin (The Age of Adaline), and Michael Rogers (The Blacklist). It's directed and written by Neill Blomkamp and is set for release on August 20.
While the synopsis doesn't tell us much, the trailer suggests that we'll be transported to a virtual world where a demonic presence awaits. How this twisted reality and its strange iconography tie into a mother's search for her daughter remains to be seen, but you best believe that I want to find out.
