Writer/director Neill Blomkamp‘s horror film Demonic was given a theatrical, On Demand, and digital release back in August, and now it has been announced that the movie will be reaching Blu-ray and DVD on March 1st. Copies are available for pre-order on Amazon.
Blomkamp’s fourth feature (following District 9, Elysium, and Chappie), Demonic has the following synopsis:
A young woman unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades old rift between mother and daughter are ruthlessly revealed in this horror-thriller from director Neill Blomkamp.
The film stars Carly Pope (Arrow), Chris William Martin (Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem), Michael J. Rogers (Hellraiser: Hellseeker), Terry Chen (Almost Famous), Nathalie Boltt (Riverdale), and newcomer Andrea Agur.
Pope, who made her theatrical feature debut in the 1998 thriller Disturbing Behavior, previously worked with Blomkamp on Elysium and multiple shorts, while Boltt had a role in District 9.
Blomkamp produced Demonic with Mike Blomkamp. Alastair Burlingham served as executive producer.
I haven’t watched Demonic yet myself, but our reviewer The Iceman wasn’t very impressed by it, giving it a 5/10 review. I still intend to check it out at some point, mainly because I’ve seen all of Blomkamp’s movies so far and might as well keep the streak going. This one also has a very interesting technical aspect: “The film uses a patent-pending new method of using volumetric capture (a three-dimensional video technology that turns actors into geometric objects). The amount of volumetric capture in Demonic is the most ever seen in a feature film.” So there’s another reason to give it a look. I honestly don’t know what the benefit of this technology is, but I want to see what this is all about.
Have you seen Demonic, and are you gonna get the Blu-ray? If so, what did you think about it? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
