DeepFake video puts Mel Gibson in Mad Max: Fury Road

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

A while back, we saw some DeepFake videos from YouTuber Ctrl Shift Face that took clips from THE SHINING and replaced Jack Nicholson with Jim Carrey. Now YouTube user Sham00K is taking on the challenge of using DeepFake technology to replace Tom Hardy in MAD MAX: FURY ROAD with the original Mad Max, Mel Gibson.

Gibson played the character in a trilogy of films that were released from 1979 through 1985, and when MAD MAX: FURY ROAD was first announced in the early 2000s he was expected to reprise the role… But then the project was delayed for more than a decade, and around 2006 Gibson decided he was too old to play Max again. So director George Miller turned to Hardy.

FURY ROAD turned out just fine without Gibson, but what would it look like if the movie had been made when it was originally supposed to and Gibson had played Max? That's the question Sham00K aims to answer.

Sham00K has shared a video that gives a look at footage showing Gibson as Max within a scene from FURY ROAD. This is a sample of their work, and they say there's more to come.

If you want to see more FURY ROAD scenes with Gibson-Max in them, keep an eye on the Sham00K YouTube channel. But first, take a look at the video below.
