There’s another shark survival thriller heading our way, Deadline reports. This one is titled Deep Fear, and Madalina Ghenea – who plays cinema icon Sophia Loren in Ridley Scott’s new film House of Gucci – has signed on to swim with the sharks alongside Ed Westwick of Gossip Girl and Eric Red’s haunted house movie 100 Feet.
Deep Fear is set to start filming in Malta and the West Indies in January. Director Marcus Adams (Long Time Dead) is at the helm, working from a screenplay written by Robert Capelli Jr. (The Rules (for Men)) and Sophia Eptamentis (Invincible Summer). The story centers on
Naomi (Ghenea) an accomplished round-the-world yachtswoman, who sets out on a solo trip to meet her boyfriend, Jackson (Westwick) in Grenada. Her tranquil three-day sail aboard 47-foot yacht “The Serenity” takes an unexpectedly dark turn when a storm forces her off the plotted course.
Deep Fear is being produced by Brilliant Pictures’ Sean O’Kelly and Marc Bikindou, as well as Halo Pictures’ Engelbert Grech and Chris Bongirne.
Ghenea’s other acting credits include The Mongrel, Dom Hemingway, Youth, Zoolander 2, All You Ever Wished For, Legacy, and multiple episodes of the TV series Borgia. Westwick has also been in Children of Men, Son of Rambow, S. Darko, J. Edgar, White Gold, and the Snatch TV series.
I feel that modern shark thrillers turn out to be underwhelming, if not flat-out bad, more often than not, and yet I’m always willing to give new ones a chance because every once in a while we get a really good one. I’ll probably be checking Deep Fear out when it gets released.
