If you have been spending your time staring at the ceiling, wondering how exactly the dynamic between Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Josh Brolin’s Cable will play out in DEADPOOL 2, then you can finally get off your back, take a shower and re-enter the world, because Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has the answer. All you need to do is look to one of the classic action-comedy flicks of the 90’s – RUSH HOUR – with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker.
While talking with Comicbook.com at SDCC last week, Liefeld talked about the chemistry between the two actors – one wild and full of energy, and the other stoic and tough – and said how it instantly reminded him of the buddy cop flick:
He's [Reynolds] such a great actor, that's where it starts, and gravitas, and who else really is going to hold their ground with Ryan as Wade/Deadpool. That is energy unbridled, and so you've gotta hold your ground. When I see the two of them I'm like "It's going to be comic book's equivalent to Rush Hour, and I don't know if comic fans are ready for it. I think it's going to be great.
The comic book creator also took to Twitter and Instagram to double down on his statements, throwing out titles like LETHAL WEAPON and TURNER AND HOOCH. I can already see the posters now:
Chan and Tucker worked wonders together and their differences made for comedy gold. If this is where DEADPOOL 2 is heading then we can expect nothing less than a side-splitting, uber-violent thrill ride. Of course, this means they now have to film a scene with Pool screaming at Cable, “Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?!” Cable will then proceed to blow off Pool’s arm. A buddy cop flick for the modern, depraved era!
DEADPOOL 2 arrives June 1, 2018.
