Disney officially acquired 20th Century Fox less than a year after the release of Deadpool 2, therefore bringing Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which was the whole point of the entire deal…I imagine. Prior to that transition, there had already been discussions about a third Deadpool movie and Ryan Reynolds took to Twitter to promote Bell's Let's Talk Day about mental health and to share a quick tease about the original idea for the sequel.
It’s critical to have open, honest and healthy discussions around mental health. By retweeting #BellLetsTalk you can make a difference. In case that’s not enough, before Disney bought Fox, Deadpool 3 was gonna be a road trip between Deadpool and Logan. Rashomon style. For real.

I think it's safe to say that pretty much all of us would absolutely have been down with that idea. Although Hugh Jackman officially hung up the claws with Logan, if anyone would have been able to get him to return for one more adventure, it would have been Ryan Reynolds. When asked if he was joking about the Deadpool and Wolverine road-trip, Reynolds replied, "I'm not." The "Rashomon style" comment is also very interesting and suggests that we might have seen the events of the film play out from the perspective of both Logan and Deadpool.
It remains to be seen what Deadpool 3 will now bring us, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed earlier this year that the film will be rated R and that they're working on the script right now. Feige added that Deadpool 3 "will not be filming this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We've got a number of things we've already announced that we now have to make, but it's exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life." Ryan Reynolds has plenty of projects on the horizon, including Free Guy on May 21, 2021, The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard on August 20, 2021, and Red Notice, which will hit Netflix later this year.
