Two more vets have signed on to return for Deadpool 3, with Morena Baccarin, who plays the Merc With a Mouth’s love interest Vanessa, and Stefan Kapicic, who plays Colossus, confirmed in a Deadline report. While Vanessa was infamously killed off in Deadpool 2, fans will remember that in the post-credits sequence from that film, Deadpool used Cable’s time travelling device to save her (along with killing Ryan Reynolds himself after he read the infamous script for Green Lantern). Last week, Baccarin’s return seemed to be in doubt, with her saying it “may or may not work out.” Clearly, it did, and indeed Baccarin joins a cast stacked with returning characters, including Leslie Uggams as Blind Al and Karan Soni as Dopinder, Deadpool’s driver. That leaves Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead unaccounted for, although she’s widely expected to return (indeed, an early version of Deadline’s story stated she had signed on). Only T.J Miller, who played Weasel, won’t be back, with the controversial comedian recently claiming Ryan Reynolds “hates him”.
Deadpool 3, which is being directed by The Adam Project and Free Guy’s Shawn Levy, sees Wade Wilson going up against Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, with the actor unretiring from the role for this one-off. Deadpool 3 has been in development hell for a long time, with issues stemming from the Disney take-over of 20th Century Studios. Many assumed the R-rated Deadpool wouldn’t mesh well with the traditionally PG-13 MCU, but all of those issues seem to have been ironed out, as the film is expected to carry an R-rating.
Are you excited to see The Merc With a Mouth go up against Wolverine in Deadpool 3? Does the fact that so many vets of the first two films are returning seem like a good sign? Let us know in the comments!
