You might’ve heard, but Hugh Jackman will be snikt-ing out the claws one last time as Wolverine in the highly anticipated Deadpool 3. This comes as exciting news as fans have said a mournful goodbye to the popular X-Men mutant after his last solo outing, Logan, but get to see him one last time in a more tongue-in-cheek affair as Deadpool famously breaks the fourth wall and has a long-standing playful rivalry with Wolverine.
People has the skinny on Hugh’s excitement as he promotes his new film, The Son. At a special advanced screening hosted by Sony Pictures Classics and The Cinema Society, Jackman could hardly contain his enthusiasm for the upcoming shoot,
It’s gonna be a blast! We like to call it Wolverine 10. That’s what I like to call it. I think being on set with [Ryan] every day and those two on film in every city together everyday…I think it’s fair to say they’ll be punching the shit out of each other the whole time. All jokes aside, I’ll probably have more fun on this movie than any other I’ve ever done.”
Reynolds recently made the announcement via a short video on his social media. Fans have been waiting to see how Deadpool will be handled now that he will officially be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with all the other registered characters of the Marvel brand. In said video, Reynolds asked Jackman if he’d play Wolverine again and addressed questions in another video, including how Wolverine will still be alive.
The comics have had Wolverine and Deadpool as frenemies throughout Deadpool’s run and there have been fun jabs here and there that both Jackman and Reynolds take at each other, but this will be the first time the characters will interact on screen (and in their MCU debut, no less). The director this time around will be Shawn Levy, who has already worked with Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project.
Deadpool 3 is likely to be Marvel Studios’ first R-rated film and is scheduled for September 6, 2024.
