Three years have already gone by since it was announced that A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night director Ana Lily Amirpour would be directing a reboot of Cliffhanger with a female character in the lead… and development on that project is taking so long, it’s getting lapped by other female-led mountain-climbing / rock-climbing survival thrillers. Earlier this year, we got The Ledge. Infinite Storm is currently enjoying a limited theatrical release. And now it has been announced that Quintessa Swindell of Trinkets has signed on to play the female lead character in the rock-climbing thriller Deadpoint for Spyglass Media Group.
Deadline reports that the duo of Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky (Freaks) will be directing Deadpoint, working from a screenplay by Paul Haapaniemi (Jane By Design). Swindell will be playing
a young woman who sets out to complete the treacherous mountain climb that claimed her father’s life. Mid-journey, she stumbles upon a murder and becomes the target of a ruthless band of criminals who want to eliminate the only witness to their crime. Alone in the unforgiving wilderness, and clinging to a sheer rock wall, her only escape is up.
Good Fear Content’s Chris Bender and Jake Weiner are producing Deadpoint while Peter Oillataguerre and Chris Stone oversee the project for Spyglass.
In addition to Trinkets, Swindell has had roles in the films Granada Nights and Voyagers, as well as the TV shows Euphoria and In Treatment. Later this year, Swindell will be seen taking on the role of Cyclone in the DC Comics adaptation Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson. That film will be reaching theatres on October 21, 2022, and will be available to watch on HBO Max 45 days later.
A release date hasn’t been set for Deadpoint yet, but we’ll keep you updated as it continues to move forward.
