Dead Space: Playing with Fear looks back at 2008 horror video game

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Earlier today, we shared the teaser trailer for EA's remake of the 2008 survival horror game Dead Space, which is coming soon to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It was the remake announcement that inspired the new episode of our Playing with Fear video series, in which host Andrew Hatfield takes a look back at the original Dead Space. Check it out in the embed above!

As I mentioned in the trailer article, I have never played Dead Space, so this video is going to be an educational one for me.

The Playing with Fear series is all about

the horror video games that have influenced the genre, whether that be through their stellar gameplay, characters, story, or a combination of elements. Join our host, Andrew Hatfield, as he dives into the history of how this franchise came to be, and all the games it inspired in the process.

Dead Space has the following set-up:

A massive mining ship, the USG Ishimura, comes in contact with a mysterious alien artifact on a distant planet and suddenly loses its communications with Earth. Engineer Isaac Clarke is sent to repair the Ishimura's communications, but arrives to find a floating vessel that has become a complete bloodbath. The crew is mutilated and infected with an ancient alien scourge. Clarke's repair mission is transformed to one of survival as he fights to save himself and return the artifact to the planet at any cost.

The Dead Space episode of Playing with Fear was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Tyler Nichols, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
