September 2nd was a monumental day for not only being my birthday but an end of a journey, a decade in the making for writer/director Edward Douglas. His film THE DEAD MATTER, co-written by Tony Demci and produced by KNB co-founder Robert Kurtzman and his production company Precinct 13 Entertainment, wrapped principal photography that morning at 5 am.
“I couldn’t be happier,” said Director Edward Douglas. “We got everything I was hoping for and so much more. The entire cast and crew really delivered on all levels. This movie is going to resonate with a lot of horror fans – we really have something special here.”
Since then, the film has moved on to post production, where Douglas hopes to have it released sometime in 2008. With the stress of production off his shoulders, he did commend his crew for being the pillar that kept production running.
Douglas credits the successful production phase to Producer Gary Jones, the FX team at Precinct 13, Director of Photography Alex Esber, UPM/AD Philip Garrett, and an “incredibly talented” crew of film veterans mixed with an enthusiastic group of hard-working production assistants. “It’s an ambitious script. We were only able to complete it on time because of the tremendous talent, teamwork, and perseverance our crew exhibited.”
The film itself is a remake of a a feature film that Douglas had directed back in 1996 of the same name, with a budget of only $2000. His intentions were to eventually remake the film with a bigger budget and larger scale production because of the belief that he had in the project. Now, 11 years later, Edward Douglas stands with the film he dreamed of making in hand and will see it through till the end.
The Dead Matter tells the story of a vampire relic with occult powers that falls into the hands of a grief-stricken young woman who will do anything to contact her dead brother.
The film stars Andrew Divoff (Lost, Wishmaster), Jason Carter (Babylon 5, Angel), and SFX king Tom Savini. You can learn more about the film, watch a trailer for the behind the scenes feature, keep up as it progresses through post and much more at it’s official website here.
