Here's the thing about unsubstantiated rumors that are posted by anonymous users, they're all total bullshit. You see, anonymity often gives some people the idea that they're allowed to post anything they'd like on the internet regardless of credibility or consequence. It's a nasty business for sure, and if you want to make it through the sewage of places like 4Chan and the darker corners of Reddit, you best bring a flashlight and some rubber boots, lest you want to track that garbage into your own online territories. Could some of those rumors turn out to be true? Absolutely. Though it's always best to proceed with caution, and wait until several of your more trusted sources have confirmed some internet rando's outrageous claims.
Now to the business at hand …
Earlier this week a 4Chan got a lot of people scratching their heads regarding a ludicrous rumor that DC planned to launch a total of 4 Batman-related films (GOTHAM CITY SIRENS, NIGHTWING, BATGRIL, THE BATMAN) in 2019 as a way of celebrating the characters 80th anniversary. Of course, this all turned out to be completely false on every front, and now we've got a humorous Twitter exchange between producers Jon Berg and Geoff Johns to prove it.
Check it out, and take note of both Berg and Johns' supremely dismissive tones regarding the ridiculousness of the aforementioned rumor:
To clarify, Jon Berg was promoted to help aid Johns in planning the future of the DCEU after BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE was a financial success but failed to resonate with a large percentage of fans and critics. In short, if anyone is going to know what the plans are for The Dark Knight's future (let alone the DCEU slate as it currently stands), it's going to be these two guys.
With any luck, we'll be hearing something super official real soon about DC's plans for its cinematic universe as Warner Bros. and the "big two" comics publisher attempt to steer their collective ship toward calmer waters. For now, AQUAMAN appears to be the only film with a firm release date for 2018, even after it was delayed from October to December to make way for a yet unannounced film project. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if we hear that SUICIDE SQUAD 2 or GOTHAM CITY SIRENS gets put on the fast track, though I suppose we'll have to see what the returns and reactions are to WONDER WOMAN before anything like that gets announced.
Remember folks, always use your best judgement when considering online rumors from either anonymous or unreliable sources. There's nothing like getting your hopes up only to have them dashed shortly thereafter. And honestly, four Batman films in the same year? If you're going to start a fire at least have the brains to use something more believable as kindling.
For the time being, you can look forward to JUSTICE LEAGUE when it arrives in theaters on November 17, 2017!
