Last weekend marked the second edition of DC FanDome, Warner Bros’ ambitious online event that previewed their upcoming content, including many of their ultra-high profile tentpole movies. This year’s event included our first looks at Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Peacemaker, and most impressively of all, Andy Muschietti’s The Flash. We also got the second full trailer for The Batman, and suffice to say; the event was jam-packed from beginning to end. It certainly looks as if the event is paying off handsomely for DC and Warner Bros, with them reporting today that the Livestream has been viewed 66 million times to date!

Now, you’ve got to hand it to DC. When the pandemic hit and Comic-Con, as we know it, was cancelled, they essentially stepped up and made their own online version of the event. It was such a roaring success last year that Netflix eventually launched a similar event, Tudum, and you can bet that other studios will follow suit. My only complaint was that it was a four-hour Livestream instead of scheduled panels, the latter of which made my job as a reporter a little easier, but I digress. Overall it was a highly enjoyable afternoon.

According to the DC press release, “DC FanDome was a truly global experience, available to fans in 12 languages and in over 220 countries. Fans shared their excitement on social media, with DC FanDome trending #1 on Twitter for eight hours in the US. DC FanDome also trended in the Top 50 in 53 countries around the world. “

With numbers like that, one must assume DC FanDome is here to stay, although I wonder if this spells the end of SDCC (San Diego Comic-Con) as THE place for studios to hype their new movies. Only time will tell.
