John Constantine, the cynical, chainsmoking paranormal detective popularized in the "Hellblazer" comics (and portrayed by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 film CONSTANTINE) is headed for the small screen in "Constantine", coming to NBC with David S. Goyer (BATMAN BEGINS) and Daniel Cerone ("The Mentalist") onboard to pen the script.
The character first appeared in Alan Moore's "The Saga of the Swamp Thing", which was co-created by Steve Bissette and Jamie Delano. The long-running comic was adapted into the 2005 feature film starring Keanu Reeves and is rumored to be featured in the JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK feature Warner Bros. has in the works with Guillermo del Toro.
Constantine centers on John Constantine, an enigmatic and irreverent con man-turned-reluctant supernatural detective who is thrust into the role of defending us against dark forces from beyond.
I've never cracked open the comic and, quite honestly, I can barely remember seeing the 2005 film CONSTANTINE, so I'm not sure if the material seems right for network television, but with Goyer onboard my hopes are high.
