Daybreakers casts Hawke!

There are some films that get stuck playing the pre-production blues and have a tough time getting off the ground, and the film DAYBREAKERS fell victim to this pattern. The film, that was announced over a year ago, is directed by the same crazy mother f*ckers who did the hip indie zombie flick UNDEAD , Peter and Michael Spierig. Well after a year of hearing nothing from this movie, we get the exciting news that casting has finally started. The buzz out of Hollywood is that Ethan Hawke has been cast in DAYBREAKERS. As for Mr. Hawke’s roll in the film – he will play a researcher in the year 2017.

For those of you who don’t already know, DAYBREAKERS is a futuristic vampire film about a plague that has transformed most of the world’s population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, vampires must capture and farm every remaining human or find a blood substitute before time runs out. However, a covert group of vampires makes a discovery that has the power to save the human race.

God damn that sounds cool. – Okay, I’ll admit, it does give me a bit of a MATRIX vibe when I read the part about having to farm humans, but it sounds like one the coolest vampire concepts to come out of Hollywood in some time. Hopefully it will help to revive a dying genre, because I love vampire films, but they’ve sucked it hard in the past 15 years.
