Syfy must have faith in the project because the show received a straight-to-series order. This move was also able to be made because it's a low-cost co-production from indie studios that afford Syfy the flexibility to take that kind of chance. The 10-episode series is produced by Cartel Entertainment, the film and TV production, management and financing company behind Shudder's Creepshow.

The original DAY OF THE DEAD was released in 1985 and was the third installment in Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD series. THE DAY OF THE DEAD has been remade twice for the big screen with the most recent remake released in 2018.
