Day of the Dead’s Johnathon Schaech talks new Bub; remembers Romero & Paxton

Last week we shared the news that the second remake (Jesus, please us) of George A. Romero's mini-classic DAY OF THE DEAD was now going to be sporting the subtitle: BLOODLINE. Making the flick, like the hundredth horror film sequel/prequel/remake/etc. to adopt said subtitle. Or at least BLOODLINE(S).

As much as the upcoming remake has little to zero chance of being worth-while (sorry, but true) one of the aspects I'm always up for is more Bub the Zombie. Or in the case of this remake "Max the Zombie." But, come on. We all know who actor Johnathon Schaech is REALLY playing here.

Anyhow, Schaech recently sat down with Brad over at B-D and talked a bit about his new take on (possibly) the most famous zombie in horror film history.

Schaech on playing Bub (aka Max):

I did the movie because I wanted to play Bub. I think Max comes across more as the Hulk than Bub. He’s Bub on steroids.

Schaech then goes on to say that the flick is like THE WALKING DEAD with “lot’s of action and scares," and “gloriously gory” with “no hidden punches.” Finally adding that the new remake is: “full throttle.”

On top of all that, Schaech also took a moment to speak about the passing of both Bill Paxton and George A. Romero, who was at one point – to my surprise – set to direct a screenplay by Schaech.

The loss of my friend Bill Paxton made me realize I just have been living a shell of the real me. Bill was such a positive force – and that is why he was so successful.

Looking back, I got to work intimately with Mr. Romero, not as an actor but as a writer. He was attached to direct our (Richard Chizmar and I) script for Stephen King’s From a Buick 8. I learned a lot from him and will be forever grateful I got that opportunity to work with such a legend.
