Day Drinker: The Amazing Spider-Man’s Marc Webb to direct supernatural thriller

After making his feature directorial debut with the 2009 romantic comedy 500 Days of Summer, music video director Marc Webb jumped right into the world of big budget blockbusters, directing The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He was going to direct a third Spidey movie, but those plans changed when Sony made a deal to reboot the character as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since then, Webb has directed a couple dramas – The Only Living Boy in New York, Gifted – and a lot of television. He’s currently working on Disney’s Snow White, and now Deadline has announced that his next project will be a supernatural thriller called Day Drinker.

Written by Zach Dean (The Tomorrow War), Day Drinker is said to be

based around the bond between an enigmatic stranger and a bartender mourning the loss of her lover. Set in coastal France, Portugal, and Spain, the story spans “love, friendship, and revenge”.

And that’s all the information that has been made available at this time. The supernatural element is being kept under wraps. The title Day Drinker brings to mind the movie Blade and that character’s Day Walker status, and on its own the word “drinker” being tied to a supernatural story makes me think of vampires… But “day drinker” could just be tied to the lead character being a bartender.

Dean is producing the film alongside Lit Entertainment Group’s Adam Kolbrenner, who was also involved with The Tomorrow War. 30West is providing the financing and executive producing.

I didn’t like what Webb did with the Amazing Spider-Man movies very much, but Day Drinker still has my attention and I’m intrigued to find out more about the supernatural side of this thriller. We’ll keep you updated on Day Drinker as more details are revealed.
