The George A. Romero classic Dawn of the Dead (get it HERE) has received a 3D conversion, with producer Richard P. Rubinstein supervising the conversion process frame-by-frame, and now the 3D version of the film is set to reach 250 Regal Cinemas theatres across the United States for a four day run – including Halloween! – this October. Rue Morgue reports that Rubinstein’s company New Amsterdam Entertainment Inc. and Regal Cinemas are teaming up to bring Dawn of the Dead in 3D to the big screen on October 28th, 29th, 30th, and 31st.
The movie will have a minimum of six screenings at each of the 250 locations. Tickets are available for purchase at THIS LINK, and will also be available at the theatres.
Written and directed by Romero, Dawn of the Dead has the following synopsis:
As hordes of zombies swarm over the U.S., the terrified populace tries everything in their power to escape the attack of the undead, but neither cities nor the countryside prove safe. In Pennsylvania, radio-station employee Stephen and his girlfriend, Francine, escape in the station helicopter, accompanied by two renegade SWAT members, Roger and Pete. The group retreats to the haven of an enclosed shopping center to make what could be humanity’s last stand.
The film stars Ken Foree, Scott Reiniger, Gaylen Ross, David Emge, and Tom Savini.
Dawn of the Dead is one of my all-time favorite movies, so I would love to see it on the big screen this Halloween, 3D or not. I’m not sure how I feel about the idea of older films getting 3D conversions, but it could be fun to see Dawn of the Dead‘s characters and zombies popping out of the screen.
