David Yates‘ TARZAN shut down production last year but is up and running again, now with stars and a release date confirmed. The 3D action movie will be hitting screens on July 1, 2016 with Alexander Skarsgard, Margot Robbie, Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz all confirmed to star. This comes after months of casting rumors including these three. The release date will also mean another high profile film for Warner Bros. during Summer 2016 as it will hit screens a couple of months after BATMAN VS SUPERMAN.
TARZAN will be David Yates‘ first film as director since 2011’s HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS – PART 2 and should be quite the blockbuster. The high caliber cast will re-team Jackson and Waltz, both of whom appeared in Quentin Tarantino‘s DJANGO UNCHAINED. Robbie is coming off of a high profile turn in Martin Scorsese‘s THE WOLF OF WALL STREET while Alexander Skarsgard may finally be getting his break to the big time after years in smaller films and HBO’s TRUE BLOOD.
The classic tale of TARZAN, a boy orphaned in the jungle and raised by gorillas only to fight those who would exploit his home and his newfound love, Jane. TARZAN was a very popular character in the early part of the 20th century followed by animated films and a television series in the early 2000s. It has been a while since TARZAN has been seen on the big screen, especially in the wake of Edgar Rice Burrough’s other iconic character, JOHN CARTER.
Here’s hoping TARZAN will be as good as it has the potential to be when it opens July 1, 2016.
