From the studio that brought you THE TOXIC AVENGER comes a film that is being hailed as “One of the most successful independent, groundbreaking and shocking science-fiction films ever to come from Australia.” Troma Entertainment is releasing David King’s PURGE and so far a lot of good words are being exchanged.
PURGE in a parallel universe, where people are genetically engineered for specific societal roles. Those who do not fulfill their purpose are criminalized and treated brutally. It is up to one young woman, a ravishing dominatrix, to defend herself against her society’s wishes for her!
Don’t feel alone if you think this sounds like a sicker-er version of BRAVE NEW WORLD. What is commonly heard about the film is that the movie will be a bit closer to heart with the baby boomer generation. Lloyd Kaufman of Troma Entertainment speaks a bit more from the perspective of those with some serious digits on their lifespan.
“This film is really going to strike a chord with those of us who came of age during the revolutions of the 1960s and 1970s…who enjoy some good shit disturbing…who are part of my aging demographic!” says Kaufman. “It will really resonate with those of us who are former hippies and student radicals and who were fans of avant-garde cinema.”
PURGE is David King’s first ever “ultra-low budget” quasi sci-fi film which is also being called an “avant-garde work of art.” The film uses uses commercials, interviews, and newscasts, along with a more traditional narrative, to fully engage the viewer in the world of PURGE. Of course this sounds like (insert failed utopia sci-fi flick here) but the point of the matter is that this sucker exists and from the sound of it needs to be watched. Hands down. If you are in the demographic that Kaufman is talking about, does this sound like something you can identify with?
