When writer/director Damien Leone turned to IndieGogo in hopes of raising $50,000 for a sequel to his gory '80s throwback TERRIFIER (which you can buy a copy of HERE), he ended up getting over $215,000… so while TERRIFIER 2 is still in production, it's no surprise to hear that Leone is already hoping to make a TERRIFIER 3.
Speaking with Sofa King Cool Magazine, TERRIFIER star David Howard Thornton, who plays the bloodthirsty Art the Clown, talked a bit about TERRIFIER 2 and confirmed that a third film is being planned.
TERRIFIER 2 has the following synopsis:
After being resurrected by a sinister entity, Art the Clown returns to Miles County where he must hunt down and destroy a teenage girl and her younger brother on Halloween night. As the body count rises, the siblings fight to stay alive while uncovering the true nature of Art's evil intent.
Thornton said that the sequel is "more ambitious", since it has a higher budget than its predecessor.
We've expanded the universe more, we're bringing more side characters in, developing them. We're much more plot oriented. But we're still not losing what made the first movie work so well, and that was just Art himself. The maliciousness to the character and the entertainment value to the character as well. We're not losing any of that."
The actor went on to say that he recently filmed a kill scene that will rival the hacksaw scene from the first movie, "People are going to be angry at us."
While most of the sequel will focus on the impact Art has on the life of that teenage girl, her younger brother, and their mom,
You find out a little bit about what's going on with Art, but we still don't want to give away everything about him yet, so we're probably going to wait until a third film or something like that to get more into his origins and stuff like that. … A third film, that's when things are really going to come to a head. But we'll see."
Thornton said that he and Leone already know how they want to begin and end a TERRIFIER 3, but they still have to flesh out everything in between. "We have that end goal already."
Thornton's co-stars in TERRIFIER 2 include Lauren LaVera, Felissa Rose, and Tamara Glynn. Jason Lively was meant to have a role as well, but scheduling issues may prevent him from being able to make it to the set.
We'll keep you updated on TERRIFIER 2 as the movie continues to make its way through production, and of course we'll be sharing any TERRIFIER 3 news we hear along the way as well.
