The HELLBOY reboot that's coming to us from DOG SOLDIERS and THE DESCENT director Neil Marshall recently got pushed back from a January release date to April 12, 2019, but with its new date six months away it looks like distributor Lionsgate is going to get the marketing machine running.
Entertainment Weekly got their hands on a new poster for the film, one which features the title character, now played by David Harbour of Stranger Things, looking badass and wielding a flaming sword. The poster comments that he is "Legendary AF", and I would have to agree.
This new take on HELLBOY is said to be an R-rated film that will be darker and more horrific than the previous films. Written by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden, Aron Coleite, and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, this one finds
Hellboy, along with his team of paranormal researchers, trying to save the world from a medieval sorceress who wants to destroy humankind.
Milla Jovovich plays the villainous Nimue, Queen of Blood, with Ian McShane as Hellboy's mentor Professor Broom, Sasha Lane as his love interest Alice Monaghan, Penelope Mitchell as the elder witch Ganeida, Daniel Dae Kim as Major Ben Daimio (who can turn into a jaguar), Sophie Okonedo as the seer Lady Hatton, Alistair Petrie as Lord Adam Glaren of the supernatural mystery investigating Osiris Club, and Brian Gleeson as the wizard Merlin.
Mignola has said that the film is very closely based on a story he told over three mini-series in the Hellboy comic books. Those mini-series were titled Darkness Calls, The Wild Hunt, and The Storm and the Fury.
Mike Mignola will be a guest on a HELLBOY panel at the New York Comic Con this Saturday, October 6th. Moderated by Entertainment Weekly's Clark Collis, the 11am panel will also feature David Harbour, Ian McShane, Daniel Dae Kim, and Sasha Lane.
