Director Neil Marshall's HELLBOY reboot starring David Harbour punched its ungodly way onto digital and Blu-ray/DVD last year (snag it HERE). And today we're hearing from Harbour himself that the movie flopped because of … Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman fans?
He says:
I think it failed before we began shooting because I think that people didn’t want us to make the movie and for some reason, there was like a big… Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman created this iconic thing that we thought could be reinvented and then they certainly – the loudness of the internet was like, “We do not want you to touch this.” And then we made a movie that I think is fun and I think had its problems but was a fun movie and then people were just very very against it and that’s people’s right but I learned my lesson…
What lesson? To not upset Del Toro and Perlman fans? Not a great way to put that knowledge to use there, Harbour… What do YOU think? Let us know below! In the meantime, the reboot is rated R for "strong bloody violence and gore throughout and language" it sports this synopsis:
While battling a trio of rampaging giants, the legendary half-demon Hellboy encounters Nimue the Blood Queen, an ancient resurrected sorceress who's out to avenge a past betrayal. Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy soon becomes hell-bent on stopping Nimue without triggering the end of the world.
HELLBOY was directed by Neil Marshall (THE DESCENT) from a screenplay written by Andrew Cosby based on the classic comic book character created by Mike Mignola.
