David Goyer addresses the connections between Man of Steel and other DC heroes

MAN OF STEEL held a red carpet premiere in New York City and the media was out in full force to speak with the cast and crew about the film and what is in the future for Superman and the other DC heroes. While we now know that a sequel to MAN OF STEEL is a definite for director Zack Snyder and screenwriter David Goyer. As rumors continue to swirl about the JUSTICE LEAGUE film and other possible DC superhero movies, the questions had to be asked and David Goyer had some answers.

From the LexCorp building in the MAN OF STEEL trailer to the Wayne Enterprises logo on a satellite that General Zod destroys, there are countless hints to the DC Universe. Goyer also indicated we will have a reference to S.T.A.R. Labs in the movie, a nod to Cyborg. Cyborg is a member of the Teen Tians and in the New 52 reboot of the DC storylines he is a founding member of the Justice League.

Goyer broke down what all this means when asked by MTV at the premiere of MAN OF STEEL:

“THE DARK KNIGHT films do not exist in the same universe. Zack [Snyder] has gone on record. The fact that we have Wayne Industries on the satellite, Bruce Wayne exists in this universe. Lex Luthor exists in this universe. Other metahumans do exist in this universe, so the hope is, depending on how the film does, that we’ll be able to roll into some other films.”

Goyer also said he has not been asked to write JUSTICE LEAGUE, but if asked he “wouldn’t say no”. I would have no problem with him getting involved with the overall DC films since you cannot argue the quality of THE DARK KNIGHT trilogy as compared to older DC movies. Whether or not MAN OF STEEL lives up to that quality remains to be seen.

MAN OF STEEL opens this Friday, June 14th.
