David Goyer developing NBC event series based on the horror novel Shadowland

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

David Goyer may be best known to audiences for his work writing Christopher Nolan‘s DARK KNIGHT trilogy and last year’s MAN OF STEEL, but he has also worked in the horror genre with movies like BLADE and THE UNBORN. On the small screen, Goyer may be about to unleash an event series based on a novel by one of the top authors in the genre.

Deadline reports that Goyer is developing Peter Straub’s novel Shadowland for NBC. Goyer has a first look deal with the network that started with the upcoming series CONSTANTINE. SHADOWLAND is being looked at as a limited event series.

The book, a World Fantasy Award nominee, centers on two young boys, Tom Flanagan and Del Nightingale. They spend a summer with Del’s uncle Coleman, one of the foremost magicians in the world, who may actually be a sorcerer.

Goyer will co-write SHADOWLAND with Jack Thorne who is currently working on the script for Joseph Gordon-Levitt‘s SANDMAN movie. Peter Straub’s son, Benjamin Straub, will produce the series. It remains to be seen when SHADOWLAND will hit the airwaves, but the ratings for CONSTANTINE may be a factor.
