David Gordon Green says Laurie is not the main character in Halloween Kills

Jamie Lee Curtis will be reprising her role of Laurie Strode in HALLOWEEN KILLS but according to director David Gordon Green, even though Curtis is the lead of the series, Laurie Strode will not be taking the lead in the upcoming sequel.

In a new interview, David Gordon Green explained that rather than taking on a lead role in the film, Laurie is more of an advisor in the latest installment:

"She's a voice of both insight and reason that is trying to give a volatile community some of sense of purpose in the film."

Green went on to say that while Laurie isn't the main character, she remains the "emotional core" of HALLOWEEN KILLS. While earlier HALLOWEEN movies focused on Michael Myers wanting to kill Laurie Strode and dispatching anyone that gets in his way, HALLOWEEN KILLS will see Andi Matichak, who plays Laurie's granddaughter Allyson, become "Haddonfield's pitchfork-wielding ringleader.":

"When we met Allyson, she was a very relatable, lovely girl-next-door type of character. Allyson here, just hours later…she is, in some ways leading the charge, and is one of the more bloodthirsty of the group. Whereas Karen, who has dealt psychologically with her mother more intimately, is trying to resist the temptations."

It seemed a bit clear in 2018's HALLOWEEN that at least one of Strode's relatives would take on a more proactive role in a sequel and I figured it would be Allyson considering her character in that film mirrors Curtis' role in 1978's HALLOWEEN. Green had hinted that while Laurie found herself all alone in her fight against Micahel in the past, Allyson will be surrounded by allies:

"Events in the film bring together a lot of characters who were in the 1978 film who we didn't see last time. They gather to try, once and for all, to take down Michael, to stop this madman."

HALLOWEEN KILLS also stars Judy Greer, Anthony Michael Hall, Kyle Richards, and Charles Cyphers and is written by Green, Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan, and Chris Bernier. The film was set for release this October but was ultimately moved to October 15, 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The movie is meant to be the second part of a trilogy that will be capped off with HALLOWEEN ENDS hitting screens in 2022

Do YOU think Allyson is the right choice to carry the torch in HALLOWEEN KILLS?
