Another HALLOWEEN sequel/remake was likely inevitable, but I doubt that many of us would have guessed that it would originate from David Gordon Green (STRONGER) and Danny McBride (Vice Principals), or that John Carpenter would be involved and that Jamie Lee Curtis would be returning to reprise her role of Laurie Strode. Suddenly, the stage seems set for something uniquely terrifying after years of sub-par sequels. While speaking with Filmmakers Magazine, Green was asked where they were at in terms of development and production on the film.
We start shooting in six weeks in Charleston. I can’t say too much more as we are trying to keep things tight right now, but we are doing something unique. John Carpenter is involved as well, which is like a dream to me. The two films I couldn’t watch growing up were Halloween and Revenge of the Nerds, so I can’t wait to invite my parents to this one.
As this interview was conducted almost a week ago, we can probably assume that they'll begin by late October/early November. I'm sure most HALLOWEEN fans would be simply grateful for a well-crafted horror story supported by suspense and memorable kills, I know I would, but as the film will be disregarding everything after HALLOWEEN II, it may very well be adding new elements to the mythology of Michael Myers. We've still got a bit of a wait ahead of us, but it will be interesting to see just what David Gordon Green's "unique" take on the franchise will be. Any thoughts?
As David Gordon Green and Danny McBride aren't exactly known for their work in the horror genre, Green says that their involvment will be kept "in the shadows" and is "not going to be a part of how we campaign the movie." HALLOWEEN will hit theaters on October 19, 2018.
