Filming of a new entry in the HALLOWEEN franchise is well underway, with David Gordon Green at the helm as Michael Myers stalks once again, this time on sets and locations in the Charleston, South Carolina area.
The film has its Myers: original Michael Myers performer Nick Castle and stuntman James Jude Courtney will both be under the mask this time around. It has its heroines: Jamie Lee Curtis playing the role of Laurie Strode for the fifth time, Judy Greer as Laurie's daughter Karen, and Andi Martichak as Karen's daughter Allyson. It has a police officer character, played by Will Patton. And it has a batch of teenage slasher fodder: Virginia Gardner, Miles Robbins, Dylan Arnold, and Drew Scheid.
Now a new casting call is out to fill more roles, and the character description indicates the new film will be going to the sort of place we see often in HALLOWEEN movies. A mental hospital.
According to Project Casting, the film needs
1 African American and Hispanic MALE to portray Criminally Insane Patient.
Written by Green and Danny McBride, the new HALLOWEEN is a direct sequel to the original, 1978 HALLOWEEN, ignoring every other sequel and reboot that has been made in the last forty years. Laurie Strode returns to have
her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.
McBride has said that this sequel will slightly alter the ending of the original film. The presence of the criminally insane and, I assume, a mental hospital in the story makes me wonder: will this movie say that Myers was captured and put back in a sanitarium after Dr. Loomis pumped six bullets into him? Is that where he's been for forty years? Is he going to break out and return to Haddonfield all over again?
We'll have to wait and see.
Produced by Blumhouse Productions with John Carpenter executive producing and possibly composing the score, HALLOWEEN is scheduled to be released on October 19, 2018.
