So, like the headline says, it's been confirmed that none-other-than David Fincher is attached to direct the WAR WORLD Z sequel. This would be his first sequel since ALIEN 3 (where he also didn't direct the original). Now, his recent GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO reboot was supposed to lead to a franchise…but we all know what happened there.
Confirmation comes from an in-depth interview from The Hollywood Reporter with Paramount studio head Jim Gianopulo, where he dropped this tidbit:
What's the status of the World War Z sequel?
We're in advanced development.
Yes.
Seems pretty cut-and-dry to me.
As for my feelings on the project, I don't really have any. I didn't see the first one (I was just zombie'd out by the time it came out, and critical consensus hasn't gotten me to rush to it), but the inclusion of Fincher is intriguing. However, after the whole Phil Lord/Christopher Miller fiasco over at HAN SOLO, there's no telling if he'll even be allowed to stick around, even after shooting. So we'll see.
So what do you Schmoes think about this franchise? If you're not a fan, does Fincher make you willing to give it a chance? Either way, sound off below guys!
