David Duchovny to star in NBC’s Charles Manson series

It looks like Fox isn't the only network looking to bring the Manson Family murder spree to the small screen as Deadline is reporting that David Duchovny is reuniting with former Showtime topper Bob Greenblatt for "Aquarius", a gritty 1960s cop drama at NBC about the Charles Manson murders. "Aquarius" has been given a 13-episode straight-to-series order that will be penned by John McNamara.

With his Showtime series "Californication" entering its final season, it's nice to see Duchovny turning his attention towards something much darker like "Aquarius". With how popular horror has been on the small screen as of late, there's plenty of potential for a show like "Aquarius" to find a huge audience so it's not all that surprising to see two different networks interested in bringing this one to life. But I'm curious to see what this means for the Manson series Fox has lined up for Rob Zombie and Bret Easton Ellis (read about that one right HERE).

Here's what "Aquarius" will be about:

Set in the late 1960s, Aquarius stars Duchovny as a Los Angeles police sergeant with a complicated personal life who starts tracking a small-time criminal and budding cult leader manson1seeking out vulnerable women to join his “cause.” The name of that man is Charles Manson. The twists and turns of a complicated undercover operation will lead Duchovny’s character and his young partner to the brink of Manson’s crimes that will that will eventually lead to the Tate-LaBianca murders in subsequent seasons.

McNamara will executive produce with Duchovny, Adelstein and Duchovny’s manager Melanie Greene.
