David Duchovny teases The X-Files will see the return of two fan favorites

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Before you start to think that the revival of THE X-FILES coming next year will feature David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson alongside a cast of new faces, we have good news for you. In an appearance on Late Night with David Letterman, Duchovny confirmed the return of some familiar faces to the cult favorite scifi series. After thirteen years, THE X-FILES will return and will also enlist the talents of William B. Davis as the Cigarette-Smoking Man and Mitch Pileggi as Walter Skinner.

Skinner became a fan favorite after a role that initially was set to be a cameo. The Cigarette-Smoking Man became the Darth Vader of the series whose background was explored over the nine-season run of the show culminating in his apparent death in the final episode. The actors have worked steadily over the years but it is nice to see the old gang getting back together.

Rumors have abounded that Annabeth Gish and Robert Patrick will also be returning to the series as agents Doggett and Reyes from the final seasons of the show. If this pans out, the six episode limited run of THE X-FILES will feel like the reunion we have all been waiting for. Hopefully someone calls The Lone Gunmen to see if they are available to shoot this year.
