ANT-MAN, PRISONERS and THE DARK KNIGHT actor David Dastmalchian has been tapped to strap on the tights as Polka-Dot Man for director James Gunn’s THE SUICIDE SQUAD, joining the returning cast of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, along with Idris Elba in an undisclosed role (originally as Deadshot, but amended with some script changes) and John Cena, again in an undisclosed role (although I’m really hoping it’s for King Shark).

Polka-Dot Man is a perfectly odd character for the film and will surely suit Gunn’s more wacky sensibilities and Dasmalchian has more than proven he can play a part like this. For those not in the know, Polka-Dot Man is a more obscure DC villain who makes use of the “dots” on his costume in a variety of weird and clever ways. It’s said that the film version will “lean into his embarrassment of his "lame" abilities.”

Additional characters being named to appear are Ratcatcher, Peacemaker and the aforementioned King Shark. It’s definitely shaping up to be an ensemble of fun and crazy characters that Gunn and co. will surely have a blast putting together. This is easily shaping up to be a curious little gem that could be the antidote for those that didn’t gel with David Ayer’s SUICIDE SQUAD (I’m personally a fan, but know that many aren’t). Either way, I can’t wait to this team in costume and on the big screen.

Director James Gunn also took to Instagram and shared his favorite run from the comics, which includes creator John Ostrander’s early run on the book. Perhaps that will give us an indication of the direction he’ll take with the film?

THE SUICIDE SQUAD is currently slated for release on August 6th, 2021.
