As human beings, it's only natural that we would want more of a good thing, be it food, drink or television programs. However, there's something to be said for being left wanting more rather than over-indulging in something you love. The Sopranos was not just one of HBO's best shows, but also one of the greatest TV series of all-time. Over the course of six-seasons, The Sopranos brought audiences into the world of Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) as he attempted to balance his home life with running a criminal organization.
The near universal praise, as well as the ambiguity over its ending, has kept The Sopranos in the public consciousness in the decade since its conclusion, and in this era of revivals and reboots, is it possible that The Sopranos could return? Creator David Chase was asked by Entertainment Weekly if he would ever want to see The Sopranos get the revival treatment.
I wouldn’t want to see that happen, no. Like recasting? … Everybody’s getting older, you can’t match people anymore.
Surprisingly, David Chase did say that he "could conceive of maybe a prequel of The Sopranos, I could never see [a return of the show] except as a prequel." EW made sure to make it clear that there is no Sopranos prequel currently in development. There's certainly room for more interesting stories set in The Sopranos universe, perhaps even diving a little more deeply into the rise of Junior and John Soprano, but I hope that they leave the series alone, especially after the death of James Gandolfini.
What do you folks think? Would you like a prequel series to The Sopranos?
I miss James Gandolfini.
