David Blue Garcia is the latest director to take a stab, or chainsaw, at Leatherface in the latest entry of the franchise, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The film serves as a direct sequel to the 1974 film and the newest installment is set to frighten Netflix users as it has made its debut on the platform.
David Blue Garcia stepped into this project after the original directors, Ryan and Andy Tohill, departed over creative differences. Perhaps this was meant to be Garcia’s moment because he does have a strong visual eye that gives the film most of its allure. He does a good job of capturing the essence of the franchise while serving up some of his own moments that will definitely appeal to horror movie fans.
I got to speak with Garcia ahead of the film’s release on Netflix and we touched on him jumping into the project and if he found it daunting to be at the helm of a new film in a franchise that has seen its share of highs and lows. We also discussed working with the cast, visual inspirations, the soon to be infamous “bus massacre” scene, and if he would be down to stick around to direct a sequel.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre is currently streaming on Netflix.
