David Ayer shoots down those Jason Todd/Joker theories

After what has seemed like a long wait, David Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD will finally hit theaters next week. There's great hope, among both Warner Bros. and fans alike, that the film will set the DC Extended Universe back on track after the lackluster reception that BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE received. The marketing surrounding the film has been a real treat and seems to promise something a little more out of the ordinary than your typical comic-book film.

Most eagerly anticipated genre flicks seem to generate their fair share of fan theories and SUICIDE SQUAD is no exception, the most popular of which points to Jared Leto's Joker secretly being Jason Todd, the incarnation of Robin who was apparently killed sometime prior to the events of BVS. Fans have pointed to circular wounds on Leto's Joker which line up with similar wounds on the Robin outfit Bruce Wayne kept in the Batcave in BVS as well as a tattoo of a bird on the Joker's bicep. SUICIDE SQUAD director David Ayer isn't having it however and recently laid the rumour to rest while speaking with WSVN-TV (via THR).

It ain't the case, he's not.

Unless Ayer is pulling some John Harrison shit on us, which I doubt, that should finally put an end to the Joker is Jason Todd rumours. Ayer also addressed the rumour that the SUICIDE SQUAD reshoots were to make the film "funnier" after the success of DEADPOOL.

I don't think you can do that, you know, 'cause it's like, what, you've got a scene and all of a sudden dudes are cracking jokes and then you're back in the old scene? It doesn't work like that, the movie was always funny, the movie was always a lot of fun. The studio just gave me more resources to make it even better.

SUICIDE SQUAD is set to hit theaters on August 5, 2016.
