Sarah Michelle Gellar has gained a few co-stars for her Amazon YA pilot, Hot Pink. Coming weeks after announcing Gellar's involvement in the pilot, David Arquette has been cast alongside Gellar while five fresh faces have been added to round out the ensemble.
Arquette's role has yet to be disclosed but it has been announced that it will be a recurring role on the series. Also added to the cast are Nina Bloomgarden, David Iacono, Mimi Davila, Dana Donnelly, and Myra Molloy. Hot Pink is loosely inspired by Elana K. Arnold's book "What Girls Are Made Of" & in the book, Nina Faye is raised to believe that there is no such thing as unconditional love, meaning she will do anything for her boyfriend to prove her worthiness. However, when he breaks up with her, Nina is lost and sets out to find out what the conditions of love really are.
Described as "the real, knotted, messy, thriving heartbeat, of young womanhood", Hot Pink was created by Elisabeth Holm, who is also executive producing. Desiree Akhavan will direct & executive produce the pilot and the series will likely secure the sought-after younger demographic that Amazon Studios has been looking for. Amazon Studios has only made a small number of YA series, such as The Wilds and Panic, and this sounds like the kind of project that the target audience will respond to.
David Arquette is best known for playing Dewey Riley in the Scream franchise and will be appearing in the fifth installment that is set to open next year. On the TV side, Arquette has had notable guest roles on Friends and Cougar Town, both of which starred his wife, Courteney Cox. The actor has also worked as a professional wrestler, winning the title of WCW World Heavyweight Champion in 2000.
